Digital Product Passport

GS1 Digital Link for Digital Product Passports

Utomo uses GS1 Digital Link to give each published Digital Product Passport a durable web identifier that can be opened from a QR code or NFC tag.

A product identifier that resolves on the web

A GS1 Digital Link expresses a GS1 identifier in a web address. Utomo uses that address as the durable entry point to the published passport, so the same identifier can be carried by a QR code or NFC tag and opened in a browser.

The link opens governed passport information

Behind the identifier, Utomo keeps the product identity, materials, packaging, environmental attributes, documents, and published passport version together. Audience rules determine what consumers, economic operators, and authorities can see.

Digital Link is not a GDSN product-data feed

GS1 Digital Link provides the resolvable identity and access point for the passport. GS1 Data Source and GDSN are separate services for synchronising product master data between trading partners; this page does not claim that Utomo publishes to a GDSN data pool.

Frequently asked questions

Is GS1 Digital Link the same as a barcode?

No. A barcode or QR code is a data carrier. GS1 Digital Link is the standards-based web address encoded in the carrier, allowing a scan to resolve to the relevant online product information.

Does GS1 Digital Link mean Utomo is connected to GDSN?

No. Digital Link and GDSN solve different problems. Utomo currently uses Digital Link for passport identity and access; a GS1 Data Source or GDSN integration would be a separate product-data connector.

Can a passport be updated without replacing the QR code?

Yes. The durable link stays attached to the product while Utomo retains versioned passport records, so updated published information can remain accessible through the same product identifier.
